MARCH 16, 2009

Happy New Year, Happy Valentine's Day, Happy St. Patrick's Day (oh wait! sorry, I got carried away). It has been awhile. Life, well I don't have to tell you how life has a way of getting busy, and involved right? My hopes are that everyone is doing well, and not suffering too much in these hard economic times.

March 16, 1990 Cathi walked down the isle of Madison Avenue Church of Christ (Wichita, KS) escorted by my Uncle Ben, to the waiting arms of David.
Thomas H. Johnson (my father) performed the ceremony in front of a host of family and friends.

Yes, it is our Anniversary! We have grown up together. David is my best friend. Our journey, thus far, has been; smooth sailing, raging seas, bumpy rollercoaster, laughter, tears, etc. In other words it has not been a boring journey. While we go through normal married folk "stuff", I think we are very blessed to have each other. I'm blessed to have him, and I don't think I'm being boastful when I say he's blessed to have me. We are right for each other. We work at being right for each other. I would like to encourage you along your journey.
Make it a good one!!!

Last but not least,
BIG shout out to MY MAN;
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DAVID EUGENE WILSON,
I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH AND LOOK FORWARD TO 50 MORE!

On September 27, 2008, I and my sister, Crystal Turner, were blessed to be with our parents,

Thomas H. and Maggie Johnson to celebrate and reminisce 50 years of marriage.

In a time where five or ten years in a marriage seems like an accomplishment. It is nice to see couples that endure the marital relationship.

I love my parents (for obvious reasons) but I also enjoy how they are with each other. There is a camaraderie, and a companionship. It isn't a mushy gushy type of thing, but you feel the respect and admiration they have for one another. After 50 years, they still talk, they laugh. For me it was encouraging. While longevity in marriage is nice, too often we see those that stay in a marriage because "there isn't anywhere else to go". To me that is sad.

I want to be married to David Eugene Wilson because I love him (we don't get along ALL THE TIME) but he is mine and I am his. I like his twisted personality, his crazy sense of humor, his creativity, his intelligence, his beautiful brown eyes. (Oops, he's been out of town, gets back Friday-YAHOO!) My point is this; life goes through cycles, and as such relationships will go through cycles. As married couples when everything is going "hunky dory", that's great but know that the "not so hunky dory" times are around the corner, and they too shall pass. Don't get caught up in the bad, and forget the good. Instead work on having more good times, and fewer bad times. Marriage is a covenant, which takes commitment, hard-work, and determination! Marriage takes sacrifice, there is no room for selfishness (that is if you are interested in a working marriage). Marriage takes friendship, someone with whom you can be yourself (no worries). Last but certainly not least, marriage is affection. I'm not talking about sex, I'm referring to a simple touch; a caress, sometimes even just the simplest of looks from David will have me all tingly for days...

Anyway, I just wanted to publicly congratulate my parents, and give encouragement to all the married folks, and even give hope to our singles. You know when the preacher man says, "Marriage should not be entered into lightly"? In the words of Hamilton Landrum, "He ain't lying."

What is YOUR mission?

I was very hesitant in commenting on this year's marriage retreat. I was hoping that those that had attended would voice their opinions.
This year we went to Embassy Suites. I have a greater appreciation for this hotel, it was like a different world. It was absolutely Beautiful. I would like to take this moment to brag on the beds! I was thinking about the beds just today. I need to stop by Bed Bath and Beyond. The beds had those "thingy ma jigs" that make you feel like your sleeping on clouds. Not just soft fluffy clouds, but clouds that entice you to have a that good sleep that you've been missing.
Then, Brother man pulled out all the stops and just showed out!!!!! Those of us in attendance, were to come up with a list of values, and from these we were to write a family mission statement. A real mission for the why behind our family hood. For me I know it was a time of reflection, conviction, and enlightenment. The Wilson's are going on a much needed family vacation, we will share with the kids our family mission.
I was very impressed by my husband, and his seemingly unending talents. If you missed it, too bad. One of the things that we (the retreat couples) have committed to do is to have more interaction with each other as couples through out the year, so make sure you keep abreast of that.
I hope the other participants will "HOLLA" so I don't seem like I'm tooting my hubby's horn. (But really what's so wrong with that?)
Big shout out to my man!!! For 'doing his thing'!!! You the MAN!!!
Friendly reminder-send in your mission statements, for accountability

AH! Spring! It is Spring, right? Hard to tell by the weather. But I don't want to sound like I'm complaining. It's been awhile, as you may or may not be aware I have gone back to school... I love it, it is very interesting. I just completed my Term Paper. (That was a trip) I discussed the role of varna which is a caste system in Hindu society. Bringing out the role it played in the society as well as Hindu religion. So perhaps one can forgive a sister for not keeping up with the blog... no? come on where is the grace and mercy? I can breath now, for a minute until time to start studying for finals.

Don't forget our "get together" May 9, 2008 7:00 p.m. Kings Church of Christ.
